Description of the match
Morocco won for the first time in its history against Brazil (2-1) in a preparation match on Saturday in Tangier, continuing its good momentum after its brilliant World Cup in Qatar.
The Atlas Lions opened the score by Sofiane Boufal (29th) on an assist from young Bilal El Khannous, who started for the second time in the national team.
The advantage was erased in the 67th minute when Casemiro’s shot eluded Bounou.
Morocco dominated against a scrappy Seleçao and regained the lead ten minutes from the end when Abdelhamid Sabiri volleyed the ball under the bar.
This is the first time that Morocco has won a confrontation with Brazil after two defeats in 1997 (2-0) and a year later (3-0) in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup in France.
For this international resumption, Walid Regragui relied on the backbone that took Morocco to the semi-finals of the World Cup, with Achraf Hakimi, replaced at the beginning of the second half, Hakim Ziyech, Azzedine Ounahi, Noussair Mazraoui and Sofyan Amrabat.
The Seleçao had to deal with the withdrawal of Neymar, Marquinhos and Richarlison.
The match was played in front of 65,000 fans in the Grand Stade de Tanger.
